Azhar Mamun: A voice for Students

Azharul Islam Mamun, a student of the Department of Islamic Studies, has been selected as president of Bangladesh Students' League (BSL), Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall unit, University of Dhaka. 

He is working to solve students problems and being praised by general students of the dormitory. 

The BSL announced Dhaka University’s 18 hall units’ partial committee after two days of council sessions held after about five years.

With the approval of the central committee, BSL DU president Sanjit Chandra Das and general secretary Saddam Hussein announced the committee list in presence of its central committee president Al Nahean Khan Joy and general secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee.

Meanwhile, Hasibul Hosen Shanto has been elected as the general secretary of the committee.

The committees were formed for one year.
Azharul, a son of Aftab Uddin who is a well-known businessman of Seedstore Bazar under Habirbari Union of Bhaluka Upazila in Mymensingh Division. He is the grandson of Gazi Riaz Uddin, a heroic freedom fighter of the area.

He was the president of the Bhaluka Students Association of Dhaka University. Apart from this, he is actively involved with different types of social activities in his Upazila.

Azharul completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) degree from Dhaka’s renowned Rajuk Uttara Model College in Uttara. Later, he got admitted to Dhaka University in the 2013-14 session. After being admitted to the university, he started the politics of Dhaka University Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall unit.

Earlier, he was the co-secretary of Muktijoddha hall (2015) and also performed as the organizing secretary (2017) at the same hall unit. After being elected as the president of the traditional hall, people from all classes and ages of Bhaluka Upazila including the Muktijoddha hall greeted him for his success.

“I want to move forward with the prayers and love of all classes by holding the political philosophy of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the hope of strengthening the hand of Bangabandhu’s beloved daughter Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” Azharul told the media in an immediate reaction.

“I always dreamt of becoming a political leader and standing beside people who are helpless and deprived of their rights in the society,” he concluded.

Before this, hall committees were formed in 2016 under the previous DU unit committee, led by Abid Al Hasan and Motahar Hossain Prince.
