8.3% medical and university students believe smoking controls Covid-19: CDC study

A recent study by the Communicable Disease Control (CDC) has revealed that 8.3 percent of medical and university students in the country believe that smoking can control Covid-19.

The data came from a research titled "Assessment of Knowledge, attitude and practices towards Covid-19 prevention among medical and non-medical university students of Bangladesh" by the Department of Health's CDC.

The research was conducted in 152 medical universities and 247 university students in Dhaka and outside Dhaka from July to August 2020.

The key findings of the study are:
About 47% respondents did not know three feet or one-meter distance means at least 2 hands.

55.4. % respondents assumed that N-95 mask is appropriate followed by 39.8% surgical mask and 4.8% have no idea about the types of mask to be used.

8.3% have believed that smoking can prevent the novel Covid-19.

Only 28.8% respondent agreed that three layer cloths mask van prevent Covid-19 transmission.

Some 53% students believed that 14-day staying in home after getting mild symptoms in necessary to prevent the transmission.

The study revealed that 72% respondents (medical and non-medical) had appropriate knowledge on the disease.

29% respondents agreed that hand sanitizer is only way of ensuring hand hygiene and 9% have no idea about the use of hand sanitizer.
