Virtual Session on ‘The Unfinished Memoirs’, autobiography of Bangabandhu

In a humble tribute to Jatir Pita of Bangladesh, the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre Dhaka organized a brief but lively virtual book reading session of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s The Unfinished Memoirs, followed by discussions of select passages read by eminent writers and personalities from India as well as Bangladesh on August, 17th at 7:30 PM, as part of the centenary celebration year, Muijb Borsho.

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Smt. Riva Ganguly Das, opened the Session reiterating Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi’s homage to Bangabandhu on his birth centenary earlier in March this year, with the words: “Bangabandhu means a Leader of courage; a Man of conviction; a Sage of peace; a Champion of justice, equality and dignity; a Hand of defiance against brutality; and a Shield against coercion.”

Following her speech, five readings from The Unfinished Memoirswere conducted, interspersed with discussions on Bangabandhu’s courage and indelible contribution to Bangladesh’s progress. The remarkable nature of the book, both as a vibrant and compelling autobiographical account of the founding father of Bangladesh and as a work of great historical importance, came out vividly through the session.

Among the esteemed participants were:
Dr. Fakrul Alam, UGC Professor, Department of English, University of Dhaka, and the English language translator of The Unfinished Memoirs;
Dr. Rajgopal Dhar Chakraborty, Head and Professor, Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies, Calcutta University;
Mr. Syed Badrul Ahsan, distinguished editor of The Asian Age and author of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman;
Dr. Subhayu Chattopadhyay a faculty member of Visva-Bharati’s Department of History; and
Ms Sadaf Saaz, poet, entrepreneur and a co-founder of the Dhaka Lit Fest

The entire session was conducted by Mrs. Neepa Choudhury, Director of IGCC Dhaka.
